If you love 78rpm records – or if you have a vintage jukebox spinning 10 inch 78 rpms you know that its tough to get the right songs. You have patiently hunted for special songs, you spent a lot of money to find and purchase those treasure and you don’t really want to risk valuable originals to the sometimes rough handling of a mechanical player. And of course you want to play a few of your favorite tunes in your Wurlitzer or Seeburg – but those songs are just not available on 78rpm.
This was the reasoning behind my efforts to be able to cut my own 78rpms. I went into the realm of sound engineering, built my own technology, searched for a good lathe and a great cutter head, studied, learned, tried and failed a lot until finally everything fell into place and I had my very first self cut record spinning in my 1937 Wurlitzer Type 24.
Now that I am able to create great sounding records, my jukebox plays more often and I am enjoying my “Wurli” even more. And I don’t get on my husbands nerves by playing the old tunes over and over again. Believe me – its a great feeling listening to your favorite songs on a vintage machine.
To help preserve our musical heritage and honor the artists of the 30s, 40s and 50s, I have now started the “Rollofone” record label. We will be re-issuing great music on 78rpm MONO vinyl. And – to help you enjoying your vintage machine more often, Rollofone is also offering a 78rpm cutting service. Not to make a lot of money, but to help my fellow 78rpm connoisseurs.
